Having won Channel League five years in a row, this 2013 season the Chargers have set out to accomplish this again.

“Our main goal is to repeat as Channel League Champions and continue that tradition” said Co-Coach Dan Choi. Choi has been coaching DP’s Girl’s Golf Team for six years now.

So far the Chargers are well on track with a record of 8-0 overall and 3-0 in League.

Although the team has not received any new players this year, “A lot of the younger players we had last year, the freshman that we had last year, have really developed into some really good players. And our older players are continuing to get better every year.” said Choi.

Their win against Buena last Thursday was lead by Sophomores Mika Henrickson, Jamie Sharpe, and Megan Caird.

Caird — who shot 43 against the Bulldogs — has her eyes set on a golfing career past high school competition: “I would love to play golf in college and continue on to the LPGA if possible” Caird said.

With the growing abilities of the players, new and returning, many of the girls are “on the brink of being able to score really low” said Choi. “We would like to get quite a few girls to qualify to play in CIF, and we would love to have our team qualify to play in CIF, also.”

While the lack of new players can be seen as a weakness, it is also one of the Chargers’ greatest strengths.

“They seem to really enjoy hanging out with each other” Choi said. “It seems like in the past we have had a lot of superstars. We’ve always had a couple of girls that could shoot really low, but now it seems that we have a lot of girls that can shoot really low. I think as a team it brings us closer together.”
