At Cerritos College on Saturday afternoon, Addi Zerrenner won her first CIF Division 2 Southern Section championship and Stamatia Scarvelis won her 4th and 5th.
Competing against the best Division 2 athletes in the Southern Section, Zerrenner won the 3200 meter championship in a personal best time of 10:19. She won by 5 seconds over Kimberly Coscia of South Torrance, who beat Zerrenner earlier in the season at the Redondo Invitational. Her previous lifetime best was 10:28, which came at the Southern Section Masters Championship her sophomore year. This is Zerrenner’s first CIF title after finishing 2nd in the Southern Section and then State for Cross Country in 2013. Her performance was the third fastest of the day for all divisions. Next week at Southern Section Masters she will face runners from all divisions
Stamatia Scarvelis won her 3rd straight CIF Southern Section Finals Shot Put title and her 2nd straight Discus title. Stam threw the 4KG Shot 52’3.00, which was 10 feet farther than 2nd place. Her winning Discus throw travelled 165’6 feet which was 30 feet farther than 2nd place. Last year at Section Finals she threw 49’4.50 in the Shot and 161’6.00 in the Discus, which was her season best. Scarvelis will move on to defend more titles at Masters next weekend.
Also competing at Finals for Dos Pueblos were Shot Putters Jon Dickinson and Joey Ochoa, Triple Jumper Niema Poindexter and Pole Vaulter Sydney Eilbacher. Dickinson finished 6th with a throw of 50’09.25 and Ochoa landed 8th place with a Shot of 47′ 10.25. In the Triple Jump, Poindexter jumped 39’05.25 for 9th place. Sydney Eilbacher’s best attempt of the day was 10’03.00 for 8th place in the Girls Pole Vault.
