The energy was electric at Dos Pueblos’ boys final basketball game against rival San Marcos High School. Our boys fought hard, with Frosh and JV teams coming up with a win, but Varsity just falling short with a disappointing and hard-fought loss.
This final game marked the end of the 2015-2016 season for the boys.
Frosh player Dillon Roberts, JV player Sean Russo, and Varsity player Antonio Trujillo shared their opinions on what went well during their seasons, what didn’t go well during their seasons, and what is going to change for next season.
Q: In your opinion, how do you think your season went? Explain.
Roberts: Our season was good. We played hard and I had a lot of fun. But, we certainly could’ve done better with more teamwork and a bigger work ethic.
Russo: I believe our season went pretty well. I had a great time playing with this team and being able to expand on my skills. I hope next season is as great as this one.
Trujillo: Our team started the season off strong with good team synergy and communication. Towards the end of the season, we began to fall apart and our team was not “clicking”, or connecting as a team.
Q: What was the most triumphant moment for you in your season?
Roberts: The most triumphant moment in our season was battling and fighting all the way to the end of our season and coming up with a big win against our long-time rivals San Marcos. It was a well deserved win for us.
Russo: The win over San Marcos was a big moment for us. We all worked really hard in that game and it really paid off for us. I was really proud of my team and how hard we worked and came up with the win. Additionally, our team’s shooting was a strong point of ours.
Trujillo: Winning against Moorpark High School was the most triumphant moment in our season. They are a very good team and we played strong to be able to beat them. We began to fall apart in the 4th quarter but we were able to hold them off and go home with the win.
Q: What could you have improved on during the season?
Roberts: Our team as a whole needed to improve most importantly on our play intensity during the second half.
Russo: Our team would have definitely improved on our record this season. We lost a lot more than we should’ve due to small errors and mistakes. If those can get fixed, not only will we be stronger as a team, but we’ll win more.
Trujillo: I can continue to keep working on my game and can improve on being a more consistent free throw shooter. As a team, we can work on building our team’s chemistry.
Q: What do you plan on changing for next season?
Roberts: I personally plan on changing multiple things on how I play: such as my like my shooting and ball handling. I also plan on working to be a better teammate.
Russo: Next season, for me, I plan on refining my ball skills and dribbling so I can stay competitive and be able to advance to the next level of play. As a team, I think we can just work on working harder and winning more.
Trujillo: I plan on training hard in the offseason and working on the weaker points of my game.
