Q: How do you think your season went?
Dana: Considering we had a fairly new team with players who had never played basketball before, I think we did pretty well as a team.
Zaida: I think our season went pretty well, even though we didn’t have a lot of wins. As a team, we really learned about everyone’s style of play and we grew as a team.
Casanueva: I think our season went very well. We were able to have a lot of success this season and were able to accomplish our goals.
Q: What were some strong points/moments during your season?
Dana: Our victories against San Marcos was definitely a strong point because they’re our cross town rivals and those games always mean more than the rest.
Zaida: One of our high points for us was playing Ventura because both of the times we played them we played really well and everyone gave 100%.
Casanueva: Some strong moments throughout the season we had were finitely when we defeated Buena by 20 points at home. That win was our first win against Buena in over 20 years for DP Girls Basketball. Another strong point in our season was making it to the CIF quarterfinals for the first time since 1996.
Q: What were some weak points/moments during your season?
Dana: Our first game of the season against Rio Mesa was a definite weak moment in our season. We had never played a full court game as a team or even scrimmaged in the gym that much since the boy’s teams always had it, even though they were experienced players.
Zaida: There were a few times where we struggled during season, especially when we played teams like Santa Barbara who are very aggressive and dedicated. Those games were good learning experiences and helped us grow as basketball players. In the end, we beat Santa Barbara the second time played them.
Casanueva: One of our weaker moments during season was not quite competing at the level of play we wanted against Santa Barbara.
Q: What will be changed for next season? What will you do differently?
Dana: Next season, hopefully all of us will be a lot more experienced and I will certainly practice harder as well as my teammates.
Zaida: Next season, I hope that our team will be able to grow and learn more, as well as continue our hard work with new players.
Casanueva: Next season won’t have a drastic change. We have a lot of returning players, which is good because we will be an experienced team. I will work hard in the offseason especially since this upcoming year will be my last at DP. I’m hoping to have even more success than we did this year so I’m definitely looking forward to it.
Q: (Varsity) What were CIF games like? What was going through your head?
Casanueva: CIF games were intense and very competitive. You really had to be physically and mentally prepared going into each game. I was nervous before each of the CIF games, but I think I went into each game thinking that we could win every game.
