The DP girls golf team kept their goal of an outright Channel League Championship alive on Tuesday at Ventura.

The Chargers improved their league record to 3-0 as they beat the Cougars 218-242.

Despite shooting close to a season low score, Dos Pueblos co-coach Dan Choi said that the scores could have been improved if the match had been at Glen Annie.

“The only thing holding the scores back were the punched greens,” said Choi. “However, even with the tricky greens we are very happy to have turned in such a good score for an away match.”

Team veteran Vanesa Villa led the team with an individual score of 39, but Choi emphasized the other individuals that stepped up when the team needed them. Both Leah Dunn and Miraya Ramirez shot their personal lows this season, posting a 43 and a 46 respectively.

“Miraya and Vanesa Villa are sisters which can be a tall order for [Miraya] to keep up with on the golf course,” said Choi. “But so far Miraya has made great improvements for someone who has really only been concentrating on the game since this past summer.”

“We are hoping that a healthy sister rivalry will result in lower scores for both,” added Choi.

The Chargers took a break from league play with their match against Paso Robles today. They resume Channel League competition next Tuesday at Glen Annie against Santa Barbara, with whom they shared a league title with last year. The Dons are shaping up to be DP’s toughest competition this year, and are a major roadblock as the Chargers look to capture their own Channel League crown.
