Last Friday, the Dos Pueblos Chargers took on cross city rivals, the Santa Barbara Dons at home.

DP was able to walk away with the victory final score, 5-2.

Senior pitcher Gabe Speier was on the mound for the Chargers and was able to pitch five innings in the game, striking out a total of eight Santa Barbara batters.

Despite Speier’s performance, DP was down early in the game.

The fifth inning gave way to the Chargers coming back when Anthony Spiritosanto crossed home plate after Brian Cho singled. Spritosanto and Cho were able to score the Chargers’ first runs of the game and tied the score.

The real game changer happened in the sixth inning as the Chargers took advantage of a Santa Barbara error with a clutch hit by senior James Savage. Savage’s hit helped the Chargers take the lead and win the game.

With this victory, the Chargers improve their league record to 2-1 and their overall record to 11-8, leaving the Dons with a record of 2-2 in league and the overall record of 9-5.

Dos Pueblos’s is half a game behind Buena in the Channel League statistics and will face off against the Bulldogs in the next league game the play.

With a victory, DP will be in first place in Cannel League but a loss will send them further behind Buena in the league standings.
