On Saturday, Charger Left-Hander Gabe Speier was taken by Red Sox in the19th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
This season Speier was named the Channel League MVP after leading Dos Pueblos to their second straight league title.
Speier graduated from Dos Pueblos High on Thursday and is committed to UC Santa Babara where his uncle, the current Reds bench coach, played baseball and where his grandfather was a football standout.
Speier, marked at 6-0 and 175 pounds, is ranked no. 265 by Baseball America and can sit between 88 and 91 mph.
Also picked were UCSB Sophomore Tyler Kuresa (Atlanta Braves), UCSB Senior Jared Wilson (Minnesota Twins), and Cal Poly Senior Denver Chavez (Diamondbacks) who graduated from Santa Barbara High School.
