Along with the next set of sports seasons, winter brings the cool evenings and frosty mornings.

And for the girls water polo team, this means jumping into the pool in those winter conditions.

However, for the Dos Pueblos water polo team, these practice conditions build one of their strongest aspects for the upcoming season, teamwork.

“I think the most important thing to being a good water polo player is being a team player,” said four-year varsity player Jamie Neushal.

“In my mind, an assist goes a long way and is much better than a goal.”

And that goal of working together as a team is more than assisting goals or winning games, it’s the late night practices, early morning swims and getting to know each other both in and outside of the pool.

The Chargers are hoping that the teamwork will take them to the top. After tying with Santa Barbara for the league title last year and losing in sudden death overtime to the number 1 seed in the quarterfinals last season, Dos Pueblos is aspiring to take the league title outright and make it to CIF.

“I think this years team will definitely have the opportunity to compete in CIF,” said Neushal. “If we work really hard, [we] will be a top contender for the league title.”

Kodianne Hill and Laurel Kistler were two varsity players last year who took the Chargers to victory. Although Hill and Kistler helped take the Chargers to victory, Dos Pueblos won’t be set back without them.

With a few freshman that have made the varsity cut, they will be able to aid the Chargers through the season without the aid of Hill and Kistler.

With the biting-cold mornings and evenings, the Dos Pueblos girls water polo team is looking forward to a season of teamwork and channel league victory.
