On April 20th, the Dos Pueblos High School Cheer and Song teams came together for their first annual Cheer and Song Showcase. Freshman/Sophomore Cheer, Junior Varsity Cheer, Varsity Cheer, and Varsity Song had been rehearsing the many routines they have learned throughout the year for a final display in the performance.

This show was an opportunity for the girls to be the focal point, as the bleachers were filled with students, friends, and family members encouraging the cheerleaders, and not the sports team.

“Throughout the year we attend other people’s events and cheer for them, but it was nice for us to have an event that was just for us,” said Varsity Songleader, Amanda Bartos. “It was a fun event and it was a successful fundraiser too.”

Many of the dances and sideline cheers in the performance were choreographed by DP Cheer alumni, and even current cheerleaders. Varsity Cheer executed a crowd favorite choreographed by captains Zoe Jongebreur Rozar, Alyssa Frausto, and Gabby Mejia, while JV Cheer danced a routine created by Megan Duffy to the song  “6 foot 7 foot” by Lil Wayne.

Co-Captain, Alyssa Frausto, introduced the teams and their routines throughout the evening, ensuring that the crowd cheered for the performers, just as the cheerleaders cheer for other athletes.

Varsity song performed their various routines, including dances to “This Girl” by Kungs vs Cookin’ on 3 Burners, “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars, “I Would Die 4 U” by Prince, and “Juice” by AD.

“This year on Varsity Song has been a lot of fun and the showcase was a great way to show everyone what we have been working on throughout the year,” Bartos said. “It ended the cheer season and showed how much we’ve accomplished.”

After Varsity Cheer’s “Pump it up for You” performance, the four teams joined together in a finale routine to end the showcase, and the cheer season.

“Overall it was a huge success,” Varsity Cheerleader Marley Harris said. “We worked so hard all year on all the routines and it was so nice to put them together and be proud of the team work and dedication it took to get there.”
